We are committed to investing in you and your career development, join us and you can expect to be supported and encouraged at every step of your career: working closely with colleagues in a well-established and experienced department, one-to-one coaching, an excellent continuing CPD package. The Sixth Form is a sector leader in digital skills and staff digital development. We have a well-developed digital strategy and Professional Growth Programme that actively supports digital skills for our staff and new technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment. Most staff currently use Showbie for much of this and we have excellent links for training and support with Showbie, Sync and Microsoft. Staff have access to Teacher Matic and have regular support and training for digital skills. All staff undertake the Microsoft Educators qualifications. The College also provides a staff wellbeing programme. The Sixth Form Bolton has an excellent reputation, high standards and outcomes for its students, and this is a real opportunity for you to make a difference in people’s lives.
You would be joining a large and vibrant department. The Science department is the largest in the Sixth Form, offering A levels in: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as the BTEC Extended National Diploma and the Extended Certificate. You would be joining a department who, at its heart, is preparing the learners in science to work in STEM, Medicine and Life and Physical sciences. The majority of students progress to HE but the department has a keen focus on developing the breadth of potential careers that its learners consider, showcasing jobs in alternative fields such as energy, nano technology, climate and water. Trips and visiting speakers are an integral feature of all provision. The department also contribute to the Super curricula provision for learners on the Honours Programme for progression to prestigious universities and in addition offer enrichment opportunities through Science Academies that operate workshops, projects and live briefs. These are well attended and valued by the learners.
The laboratories in the department are high quality, modern and very well equipped supported by specialist technicians in each discipline. Course teams work collaboratively and with passion to plan and deliver high quality courses that fully develop every individual to their potential. We are looking for a leader who is keen to further develop both themselves and the provision in the department, supporting the Director of Science in developing and shaping teaching and learning across the team, looking for even more opportunities to develop the employability skills and wider experiences of learners. The Deputy Director of Science would be expected to contribute to the teaching of either A level and/or the vocational programme. Candidates from all science disciplines will be considered. Whilst we ideally would like the selected candidate to start as soon as they could we are happy to wait until September for the right individual.
