School of Expressive Arts After-School Club


The Sixth Form Bolton is proud to offer an exciting after-school club for pupils with a passion for Art and Design, and for those interested in pursuing a career within the creative industries.

These sessions will help you learn and develop a wide range of expressive art skills. In the final week, there will be an opportunityto showcase the new skills you have learnt.

Course cost: £20 per course to be paid in full in advance

Duration: 8-week course

Dates: 16 January 2025 -13 March 2025

Day: Thursday, 4.30pm-5.45pm

Age group: Year 10 - Year 11 pupils

WEEKS 1 AND 2: GRAPHIC DESIGN

A deep dive into Photoshop’s creative image making tools to create a mixed media poster design that incorporates photography, digital painting, lettering and typography. No previous experience needed as you will be taught everything you need to know to get the most out of the 2-week workshop.

WEEKS 3 AND 4: FINE ART

Giant, expressive, colourful, painting workshop: An introduction into working ambitiously. Learn how to enlarge images quickly and then have fun creating a very large-scale painting using expressive mark making and brush strokes.

WEEKS 5 AND 6: TEXTILE ART

Explore abstract mark making and see these marks being disassembled and reassembled. These will then be developed using a range of hand and machine embroidery, mono printmaking and fabric transfer techniques to produce some wonderful, textured, mixed media textile art pieces.

WEEKS 7 AND 8: PHOTOGRAPHY

Use a range of photography techniques to explore image-making with a DSLR camera, studio lighting, scanning, and cameraless techniques in a darkroom to produce experimental images. Get to know some digital techniques using Photoshop to manipulate images into multi-layered montages. No prior experience of digital or any other type of photography needed.
