The Sixth Form Bolton was delighted to host an engaging conference showcasing how our teachers are embracing the latest digital developments. The college was recently shortlisted for a prestigious Educate North Award, celebrating excellence across schools, colleges and higher education within the Digital Education and Development Awards category. The Sixth Form are leading the way in the sector for digital skills development, delivery and expertise, and welcomed the opportunity to offer support to local partners on their own digital journeys.

The B6 EdTech Conference, the first of its kind for The Sixth Form, provided educators from local schools and colleges an opportunity to personally experience and explore digital tools highlighting the impact of technology on education, breaking down barriers to learning and improving student outcomes, with a focus on feedback, including students with special educational needs.

Keynote speakers included The Sixth Form’s digital partners, Sync, Edpuzzle and Showbie sharing insights on how their platforms are revolutionising the educational landscape. Visitors discovered how The Sixth Form are fostering accessibility, engaging and personalising learning experiences as well as providing tailored feedback; helping every student to thrive.

A highlight of the event was a guided tour of classrooms across a range of subjects, where attendees could witness these technologies in action being used by Sixth Form teachers. From interactive lesson delivery to tools that support SEN learners through visual aids, adaptable pacing, and differentiated tasks, participants gained practical insights into how technology is actively reshaping the classroom experience in a positive way.

There was also a discussion on how The Sixth Form leverage artificial intelligence tools such as Teacher Matic to streamline administrative tasks, becoming more creative and allowing educators to focus their time and energy on teaching and individualised student support by reducing overall workload.

Nicola Sodano, Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning at The Sixth Form Bolton said:

‘At The Sixth Form Bolton, we are committed to continuously developing our teaching staff to ensure they are integrating technology effectively into their teaching and learning. This enables our students to build the essential skills they will need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. The platforms we utilise allow us to provide personalised 1:1 instruction and continuous feedback within each lesson. Through extensive research into how today’s students learn in the current educational landscape, we are shaping a dynamic and future-focused approach to learning.’

The passion that the team at the college has for technology is inspiring, and it was great to actually see how these tools are being used in the classroom. This event showcased the incredible potential of effective EdTech implementation, and it's exciting that Edpuzzle is among the tools driving this initiative.'

Krystina Power, Education Success Manager at Showbie, UK said:

“One of the standout moments for me was engaging directly with educators and students, seeing firsthand how they are integrating innovative technology into teaching and learning. It was incredible to witness the impact iPads and Showbie are having in the classroom, not just in streamlining workflows but in truly enhancing learning experiences. The passion and enthusiasm from your team were evident, and it’s clear that your digital plans will make a real difference in helping every student reach their full potential.”

Hannah Croskery, Learning Specialist at Showbie said:

Honestly, what an incredibly powerful day The Sixth Form Bolton gave us! It was an absolute pleasure to visit classrooms and speak to staff about how they are using technology to enhance their teaching. What was just as powerful, was how engaged the students were in their learning. They described how easy it was to communicate with their teachers, how they felt the teachers really understood how they were learning and how proud they were of their work.  One student told me that he was able to access his teacher’s teaching literally anywhere, even on the bus as he travelled to and from college.  What an incredible difference iPads and Showbie are making, thanks to the vision of Curtis Scott and the senior leadership team and the readiness of the teaching staff to embrace innovative technology.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for educators to experience how technology is driving inclusivity and innovation in education, particularly at The Sixth Form Bolton.
