Congratulations to the dedicated Careers Team at The Sixth Form Bolton who recently achieved the respected Quality in Careers Standard. The Quality in Careers Standard is the single national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in secondary and special schools, colleges and work-based learning. The Sixth Form is proud to have been assessed for fully meeting all the accreditation criteria incorporating the intricate Gatsby Benchmarks.
All state-funded secondary and special schools, academies, sixth form colleges and further education colleges are “strongly recommended” by the Department for Education in its January 2023 updated Statutory Guidance to work towards, achieve, and maintain this national Standard as part of its careers strategy. The Standard is fully aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks for “Good Career Guidance” and complies with the DfE’s Statutory Guidance.
The glowing report received by the College highlighted:
There is an underpinning whole college ethos to high quality CEIAG at The Sixth Form, Bolton, driven by a passionate Careers Team, well-supported by governors, senior management and staff’. The report also recognised how ‘developments are innovative and tailored to students’ needs.
As England’s dedicated national quality award, the Quality in Careers Standard – through external assessment – uniquely accredits the four components of the CEIAG: Careers Education, Careers Information, Careers Advice and Careers Guidance.
Jill Whitham, Head of Careers and Employability at the Sixth Form said:
‘It has taken us over three years to put together all the necessary evidence in order to achieve this award, which is proof of the fantastic careers programme that we provide for our students. Our careers programme is delivered not only by the B6 careers team, but by the many exciting career-learning opportunities that students are able to access through their subject areas. This award really is a whole-college achievement and we couldn’t be prouder!
