The Sixth Form Bolton, in partnership with Hewlett Packard, launched our first-ever B6 Code Challenge event last week. The competition was open to the brightest computer scientists from local secondary schools and included a range of computational and programming challenges.
Our partner, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) sponsored trophies for the top three teams and all teams left with rewards and certificates. Ruth Maycock, a Graduate Presales Consultant from HPE, challenged the competitors to reassemble a central processing unit and she was blown away by their work.
The competing teams came from Bolton St Catherine’s Academy, Essa Academy, Fred Longworth High School, Kearsley Academy, Ladybridge High School, Little Lever School, Smithills School and Madrasatul Imam Muhammad Zakariya (MIMZ). Smithills Team B were crowned the winners, MIMZ took second place and Little Lever School came third.
A huge thank you to HPE for sponsoring the event, Ruth Maycock for running the CPU challenge, the school students and staff for participating, the B6 Code Challenge Ambassadors and Umar Ali and the rest of the Computer Science team for organising this wonderful event. We had a fantastic time and we’re really looking forward to running the event again next year.
