The Public Services students at The Sixth Form Bolton had an action-packed week at Holcombe Moor Training Camp when they dived into the British Army Work Experience Week, honing essential skills like leadership, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving. This fantastic opportunity was arranged by Public Services Tutor and B6 Student Leadership Programme Co-ordinator, Nicholas Fisher, who was on-hand to lead the group throughout the week.

Over the first couple of days, the group tackled the assault course, showcasing determination by conquering 9-foot walls and leaping off 6-foot beams. Impressive efforts and valuable lessons learned! They also engaged in camouflage and concealment lessons, camp craft, and built a harbour site, all while experiencing life in the field. The night navigation exercises they took part in highlighted the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership in military scenarios.

The students learned to overcome various obstacles, enhancing their problem-solving skills. Many participants from the B6 Student Leadership Programme discovered valuable insights into their own leadership abilities, focusing on delegation, resilience, and maintaining a positive mindset.

On the third day, the Public Service students honed their command and control skills by participating in section attacks, gaining valuable insights into managing a range of military scenarios. The day tested and strengthened their resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, pushing them to overcome challenges at every turn. With smiles all around, it’s clear that every participant left the day stronger, more capable, and better prepared for the future.

The students concluded the week with a presentation where they received certificates from the military and heard an inspiring speech commending their efforts and future potential.

Nick Fisher was really impressed with the group saying:

“These students have shown incredible growth in leadership, resilience, and teamwork, enhancing their roles as emerging leaders. I couldn’t be prouder of how confident, capable, and career-ready they’ve become!”

The students enjoyed the gruelling but rewarding week with George-Gabriel Vieru saying:

Congratulations to our outstanding students—you’ve made us all proud!
